Primal Form is a 3D modeler for UNIX distributed under the GNU General Public License. It sports a simple user interface, an extensible architecture using plug-ins and a TCP/IP command port.
After a two year hiatus work on Primal Form has begun again! It has been completely rewritten since v0.3.1 and has a bright, shiny new kernel. It can now be compiled as a KDE application. Unfortunately, the modelling code has not been reimplemented so there is nothing usable at this time.
Since the last release, Blender has now become an open source project. Blender does a lot, but everything is hard-coded and, in my estimation, there is no extensible core which can be built upon. Unlike Blender, Primal Form uses a traditional windowed interface and aims to be usable without investing a week learning funky keyboard shortcuts.
Another modeller, Wings 3D is progressing nicely. Since Primal Form is out of action for now, I highly recommend Wings 3D instead.
